Sixth Annual All-Ohio Catholic Cross Country
Championships
The 6th Annual All-Ohio Catholic Cross Country Championships
were contested on the 23rd of September 2000 at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering,
Ohio (south of Dayton). Carroll
High School hosted this prestigious event, to which all of the Catholic high
schools in the state were invited. The
meet has grown in both size and quality for each of its six years and has
rapidly become one of the state's premier invitationals.
This year thirty-seven schools competed across two divisions in both
men's and women's races. The
invitational allows schools the option of competing in either the Varsity
division, for smaller and less competitive schools, or the Championship
division, where the teams battle for the title of All Ohio Catholic Champion.
In this year's Men's Championship race Elder (Cincinnati) improved on
last year's 2nd place finish to win out over a very strong field
containing several teams with state rankings.
In the Women's Championship race, St Joseph (Cleveland) took the title in
one of the most competitive fields yet. Elyria
Catholic successfully defended in the Men's Varsity race, as well as St. Francis
Desales (Columbus) in the Women's Varsity race.
The host team Carroll finished 3rd in the Women's Championship.
The Patriots were led by junior Katie Flaute, who finished a strong 2nd
in 19:46. The strong pack of Ashley
Braun (21st in 21:19), Jamie Levy (23rd in 21:23), Dana Duckro (25th in 21:29)
and Molly Holbrook (33rd in 21:40) helped to secure the high finish for the
team. Maggie LaSelle (60th in 22:38) and Elizabeth Dinino (68th in 22:52)
rounded out the Patriot seven. The
Carroll men finished a solid 4th in the Championship race.
Matt Danis (10th in 17:32) and James Borchers (11th in 17:34) led the
Patriots, followed by Paul Carter (29th in 18:08), Craig Luehrs (30th in 18:10),
James Clark (35th in 18:24),Casey Miller (40th in 18:28) and Matt Doran (48th in
18:45)
