CARROLL CROSS COUNTRY CLAIMS DISTRICT RUNNER-UPS

The Carroll men’s and women’s teams both ran to District runner-up titles Saturday at Trotwood and advanced to the Regional Championships next Saturday in Troy. Carroll coach John Agnew was pleased with his teams’ performances. "We have some very talented runners who have been training very hard. We knew we could get through Disticts and onto Regionals without backing off the training too much. We had a few runners with colds and everyone was running a little tired and we still had most everyone run at or better than their season best times. Now we are ready to rest up and peak with some great races next weekend at Regionals!" The Lady Patriots were led by Leighann Kramer and Katie Flaute who finished 3rd and 4th in 19:23 and 19:37. "Leighann and Katie just ran together and never really got in the lead race. They both know they can run with just about anyone and are ready to run times in the mid 18’s next weekend." Said Agnew. Lynda Wourms finished 8th in 20:17. "Lynda was just getting over a cold and she still ran a season best time. She wasn’t even tired after the race, I think she is finally realizing that she is ready to run back in the low 19’s again." Maggie LaSelle finished 20th in 20:53. "Maggie also ran a season best time, but I know she wasn’t satisfied. She knows that she can and will run with Lynda at Regionals." Molly Holbrook and Katie Ballman worked together to finish 23rd and 24th in 21:03 and 21:05. "Molly and Katie have made huge strides over the last week or two and are very focused and determined to race much faster at Regionals. They are confident they can reach their goals." Mary Phillips rounded out the varsity in 38th in 22:35. "Mary is just a freshman and this is her first season of running. She has tremendous potential and is starting to get positive about it all. She has a great future in distance running!", said coach Agnew.

The Patriot men were led by Seth Chaney who finished 2nd in 16:33. "That was Seth’s fastest time, but there is so much more in him. The race ended before Seth could catch the leader, but he was so strong in the last mile that he is excited and confident about running much faster at Regionals", said coach Agnew. Mike LaSelle used a strong kick to finish 4th in 16:38. "This race was a big step toward Mike getting the confidence he needs to race with the leaders. He has a ferocious kick and that’s going to be a huge tool at Troy." Derrick Himmelberg finished 15th in 17:08. "Derrick was battling a chest cold and it slowed him some. He is capable of running with Mike and Seth and I expect him to be right with them at Regionals." James Borchers finished 18th in 17:25. "James is one of our most talented runners and I think this week’s rest is really going to bring him to the mid 16’s." Casey Miller finished 27th in 17:58. "Casey moved up great through the race, but he started off a little too slow. I think with a faster start, he’ll get pulled to a low 17 or even under" Paul Carter and Tony Holtvoigt rounded out the Patriot varsity in 35th and 37th in 18:13 and 18:14. "Both Paul and Tony are freshman and first year runners. They have shown tremendous potential and they both have the attitudes that will make them great distance runners.", said coach Agnew.
